Early Tests and Experiments

David and Goliath

During the time when Ray was doing his early Fairy Tales in the late 40's he became interested in the idea of this old testament story mainly the giant Goliath. With the help of Cecil Maiden he completed a four-page outline consisting of five key sequences of the project, but it never became a reality.

The Elementals

After the completion of The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms Ray developed a script called The Elementals, to make the project more feasible he drew a couple of key sketches and filmed a 5 minute 35mm color test. The sequence depicted a flying creature attacking a man (Harryhausen) waving a stick as to fend off the creature on top of a hill. Later in his own hobby house Ray created an armature for the creature and the model of him self. For the test Ray's father manned the camera while Ray acted as the man being attacked by the creature, eventually taking him away in its giant claws. With all his efforts to get The Elementals to the big screen..it never made it. Jack Dietz spent almost a year searching for finance for the film but no one came forth, so the project eventually faded away..

Evolution

Evolution was Ray's most ambitious project at the time, it featured some of Ray's first dinosaurs. The idea was never completed but it allowed him to show what he could do for a feature film.
